The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. TJ Johnson @ Cafe Boheme, Soho, London - June 22

A short walk from the Spice of Life, under a sweltering sun Old Compton Street's Cafe Boheme came into its own. The corner site location, with its French windows open on both sides encouraged passers-by to pause and listen awhile to Monday afternoon's jazz session billowing out onto Soho's bustling streets. This Monday afternoon we were listening to TJ Johnson.  


Teas and coffees ordered, pianist TJ got to work. Amiable, laid back, our barroom pianist snapped a finger, smiled, nodding to friends old and new, all without missing a beat. As the world bustled by, TJ played jazz (All of Me), country (Ray Charles and Willie Nelson touchstones), a blues or two (Stormy Monday on anything but a stormy Monday), all in a sweltering Soho afternoon's work.

Cafe Boheme presents jazz seven days (afternoons) a week. It's free admission, but do the right thing, purchase a beer, a coffee or whatever. Russell
