This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Free Community Jazz Jam in Hull

Hull’s Albermarle Music Centre is to stage a free Community Jazz Jam on Saturday 4th July. Located in the city centre, close to the railway and bus stations, the event runs from 1.30pm through to 9.00pm. There’s car parking available next door at St Stephen’s shopping mall.

In the afternoon there will be local community groups performing, including the Albemarle Jazz Camp, the Hull Jazz Jammers, the Lewis Kilvington Guitar Jammers, the Marlborough Avenue Ukulele Group (MUGs) and Greg Jones on piano.

In the evening there will be a “How to Jam Masterclass” followed by the opportunity to jam with the Rob Law Trio (John Marley on bass, Chris Sykes on drums with Rob on keys). The organisers ask that anyone wanting to play should contact them in advance, to help with the planning.

The event will end with a performance by Martin “Mad Dog” Jones, supported by the Rob Law Trio. Roy Woodcock
