This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Yamaha strikes a chord in North Shields (Jan. 5)

This time last year Steven Moore took the bold step of opening a Yamaha Music School in Blyth. Twelve months on, it's courses galore (name your instrument), many oversubscribed, plus a weekly Monday lunchtime concert series (classical, folk, jazz etc), it's fair to say the Seaforth Street music hub has been, and is, a resounding success. 

Not one to rest on his laurels, Steven set about finding another site and this afternoon (Sunday) interested members of the public were invited to attend an open day at Yamaha Music School, North Shields. Located on Russell Street, no more than thirty seconds' walk from the town's metro station, the building was a hive of activity. Music students, soon-to-be music students and the curious were there to take a look inside. Steven and several of his tutors were on hand to conduct tours and discuss his plans for the future. No doubt some decided there and then to sign up to a course! More power to your elbow, Steven!
