This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: The Tenements head South to Prohibition Bar (Jan. 19)

The Tenement Jazz Band is one of the great success stories of the Scottish jazz scene. Formed in 2018, the Edinburgh based outfit wasted little time, gigging and busking, whenever and wherever. Newcastle's Prohibition Bar became a regular port of call and the band's first CD, Wiggle, sold like hotcakes. 

A second album, South, received rave reviews and in 2022 the Tenements topped the polls, winning 'Best Band' at the Scottish Jazz Awards. Tomorrow night (Sunday) the Tenements are making another visit to Pink Lane, Newcastle. Join Charles, Paddy, Stephen, John and Rory for an evening of top class jazz.  

It's a seven o'clock start, it's free admission, however, do tip the band. There will be a jar on the bar, forget loose change, part with some of the folding stuff - they're that good! Russell
