The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Info on the Tony Rushby Sextet wanted.

Richard Morton Jack came across this vinyl album recorded at Mortonsound Studio on Carliol Square, Newcastle and is curious to find out more.

Richard understands leader Tony Rushby, who plays sax on the record, was a physics researcher at Durham Uni and the rhythm section was the Jim Vincent Trio: Vincent (piano), Tom Derbyshire (bass), Marshall Walker (drums).

Recording date is estimated as being circa 1964 which would probably be around about the time when the trio were resident at the Blackfell Country Club near Birtley.

He would appreciate any further information such as to who were the other two members of the sextet.

If Tom Derbyshire reads this perhaps he will be able to fill in the details. Lance

To clarify, I know that Tony Rushby played with Jim Vincent, Tom Derbyshire and Marshall Walker in 1964, but not whether they were on the LP.

The LP also features some prominent flute - perhaps Tony played that too.

He was at Durham Uni when I was at Bede College (The College of the Venereal Bed) 1964-1967 and he used to play tenor in the students' union etc.
