I'd been at the RVI for a routine eye check and, afterwards, as I passed the Oxfam shop, I thought I'd do a spot of 'Spilletting'.
Simon has golden fingers when he is on the case, me never. Nonetheless, I browsed through the vinyl.
The Oxfam gang have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to pricing so, although I was reluctant to fork out £7.99 for a Glenn Miller album I already had and which cost less than that when I bought it in mint condition! I continued browsing and all wasn't entirely lost and, although it was hardly like discovering the BB cylinder, it wasn't too bad spending £1.99 on a Dennis Lotis LP considering that not only was it autographed by Dennis but was also autographed by Lita Roza.
Lita, of course, was part of Ted Heath's vocal triumvirate - Dennis Lotis, Dickie Valentine and Lita Roza. I found Dennis a much more exciting singer than Dickie although not as sexy as Lita! My wife's friend, Valerie, disagreed - Dickie was her Valentine! The songs are great and well sung. He was one of the best. Lance
Dennis Lotis died on February 8 this year.
I would love to discover who were the couple that the autographed album was dedicated too. Presumably they are up there too - or maybe not... Lance
The songs are classic standards: Swing Low, Sweet Chariot; Where Are You (?); All the Way; Paradise; End of a Love Affair; Tangerine; Night and Day; Folks Who Live on the Hill; Last Night When we Were Young; We'll be Together Again; Being Green.
