Instead, there was laughter, good-natured chuckles, as we heard so many stories related by family and friends from the various aspects of Steve's amazing, and much travelled life*.
Afterwards, many of us retired to the Globe (Steve had insisted that any donations were made to the Jazz Coop) where we enjoyed a splendid buffet, shared more memories and paid our last respects. No, delete last respects. Our respect for Steve will last forever. He was one of a kind. And Sandra, if you ever need to talk, the jazz community will always be there for you. Lance
*I once asked him if he was going to a gig and he said, "Sorry, but I'll be in Russia on that date!" And the photo above was actually taken at Ned Kelly's Ĺast Stand - a Jazz Club in Hong Kong!

Last time I saw him he told me N'Awlins was his favourite American City. I was looking for a funeral but sadly never saw one. He was in my thoughts.
