Tomorrow (Thursday) sees the launch of a new monthly jazz night at the Black Swan in Newcastle Arts Centre. The venue's fortnightly jam sessions have become the stuff of legend and now there is the prospect of regular concerts, the first of which features Stu Collingwood's new Organ Trio. From Jimmy Smith through to Joey DeFrancesco, Stu's many influences will form a smokin' Hammond organ set. What's more, check out Stu's vocals! June 23 just happens to be Open Thursday. Contemporary Visual Arts Network (England) is coordinating a Newcastle-Gateshead initiative to open up venues and spaces to the public beyond the usual 'nine to five'. For one night only, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Newcastle Arts Centre will throw open its doors to visitors who'll be able to take a look at two exhibitions, take a peek at the venue's workshops and enjoy a performance by the newly formed duo of Amy Thatcher and Fran Knowles. Accordion, percussion, synths, vocals, all will be in the mix, starting from six o'clock, and it's free! From eight o'clock there will be a £12 door charge to hear Stu Collingwood's set.
