Further to Russell's report I unfortunately missed Sam Fender but I did catch Diana Ross, Herbie Hancock and Kacey Mulgraves. They all did their own thing brilliantly.
What can I say about Diana? This self-confessed 78 years old icon was supreme! With a hot horn section, a rhythm section to die for and a backing group augmented by several thousand fans who knew all the words of her hits she scored big time - even the security guards at the front of the stage were doing choreography!
Herbie may have seemed, at first glance, to be out of his depth but no way. He found just the right groove for the gig and I didn't see anyone digging an escape tunnel. The band were delivering what the crowd wanted and they got it!
Kaycee Mulgraves was a new name to me but she too knew how to work a room or, in this case, a field and strutted her stuff in true country fashion although, in truth, there was much more depth to her lyrics than you get from your average Nashville somebody done somebody wrong type song.
And, to top it all - it didn't even rain! Lance
