This year's Glastonbury shindig appears to have been basking in mid-summer sunshine. Paul McCartney played non-stop for all of two and a half hours - not bad for an octogenarian. Diana Ross sang some of her greatest hits (the Supreme Ms Ross will be in concert at Durham County Cricket Club on Wednesday 29 June), and Herbie Hancock gave them Chameleon and more (Eddie Henderson, trumpet). And then there was Sam Fender...
All the way from North Shields, Sam Fender took Glastonbury by storm. The Geordie superstar was joined on stage by a couple of Tyneside's jazz fraternity - Johnny 'Blue Hat' Davis blowing bootin' tenor, just as he used to do at Newcastle's Jazz Cafe jam sessions, and trumpet ace Mark Webb. Where next for the man-of-the-moment? Chances are he'll (try to) have a quiet pint in his local, then be off on the road again. The world awaits.

Herbie Hancock's all star band featured Terence Blanchard on trumpet (a nice buttery Monette with effects pedals!)he's just a (60 year old) stripling compared to Eddie Henderson (at 81 a year younger than Hancock).
Also, Snarky Puppy (feat Bill Laurance) played their new album, and Nubya Garcia had the audience dancing to her high energy groove set.
Terence Blanchard, of course! I didn't see Snarky Puppy.
