This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. It's Record Store Day, again...

Tomorrow is Record Store Day. The pandemic has played havoc with the annual celebration/promotion of independent record shops. Usually held in April, this year the event will take place tomorrow (Saturday 12) and again on July 17. Hundreds of stores will be participating in the event and, believe it or not, outside some shops collectors form a queue, determined to acquire the latest 'must-have' item. 

Across BSH's home patch - Tyne and Wear - several independents will be opening their doors to hordes of music lovers. The jazz fan with a penchant for vinyl albums should keep an eye out for reissues of Art Blakey (a double LP recorded shortly before Blakey's death in 1990), Chet Baker, Kenny Dorham and a contemporary offering from Nubya Garcia (see image of the striking cover art). Select outlets will be selling cans of the Meantime Brewing Company's specially brewed 33:45 beer (at, it has to be said, a rather disappointing 3.5% ABV). Support your local record store!
