North Sea Jazz 2020 In Concert: Metropole Orkest And Friends

The world’s largest indoor music festival set to stream a specially recorded concert featuring Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum and more this Sunday 12th July.
(Press release)

The NN North Sea Jazz Festival, the Metropole Orkest and Dutch broadcaster NTR have joined forces for a special concert this week to celebrate what would have been the 44th edition of the world’s largest indoor music festival. The concert, which will be streamed this Sunday July 12th via the festival’s Facebook page, saw the award-winning Metropole Orkest reunited on stage in full for the first time since the COVID-19 lockdown to perform with a number of international special guests - both in-person and remotely - who were set to perform at NN North Sea Jazz this year.

The array of guests included superstar vocalists Gregory Porter and Jamie Cullum, revered trumpeters Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah and Ibrahim Maalouf, and ebullient singer-songwriter Yola.

Jan Willem Luyken, Director, North Sea Jazz Festival:

Although we will all miss the festival this year, I am incredibly happy that we were able to organize this together with NTR, Metropole Orkest, and some great artists. Many thanks go out to our sponsors NN Group, Port of Rotterdam, Surmount Ventures and Fundashon Bon Intenshon, without whom this would not have been possible. The fact that we can hold this concert is a huge boost for us.”

Described by The Observer as “as safe-haven of jazz and pop for all tastes”, the North Sea Jazz Festival has built an unrivalled reputation since its inception in 1976 as one of the most unique and eclectic events in the musical calendar. Having played host to the likes of jazz greats Miles Davis and Ray Charles through to D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jamiroquai, Earth, Wind and Fire and many, many more, the North Sea Jazz Festival is a legendary event like no other, usually presenting more than 1000 musicians in over 150 performances across its 3 days.

The concert will be available to stream here at 18:20 GMT on Sunday 12th July.
