The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Livestream: Ronnie Scott's All Stars - 'The Sound Of Soho'. July 6

The previous post will tell you what this was all about and it was indeed a fine session even though I didn't catch everything due to some technical issues that Facebook and I have yet to resolve. I guess I'm a YouTube man through and through!

Still, freezing picture frames notwithstanding, I enjoyed the band and Natalie's singing - reminding me of that great evening, some years back, at Hoochie Coochie when she wowed the crowd.


The house band, led as always by James Pearson, were unfazed by the empty room - jazz guys are used to it albeit very rarely at Ronnie's! Some great tenor from Alex Garnett with superb back up from Sam Burgess and Chris H but Natalie was the showstopper delivering knockout versions of, among other things, I Cried For You, Thou Swell, The More I See You, What a Diff'rence a Day Made and a Gillespie Afro-Cuban number that I recognised but didn't nail.
