This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Sunday Night is Billie Holiday Night

In 2015 at Hackney Empire Mike Dixon conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra in a centenary tribute to Billie Holiday. This evening on Radio 2 there is another chance to hear the edition of Sunday Night is Music Night which features Madeline Bell, Gloria Onitiri and Rebecca Ferguson singing numbers associated with Holiday. Trumpeter Guy Barker and saxophonist Ben Castle join the vocal triumvirate. Seven o'clock, Radio 2.

Certainly is a jazz night! As well as the Billie Holiday programme - hopefully it won't be the overworked numbers that every wannabe does such as God Bless the Child and Fine and Mellow but less hackneyed tunes such as Them There Eyes and I Hear Music.

At 9:00pm, on the Talking Pictures channel, there's a 1968 Sunday Night at the London Palladium featuring Sarah Vaughan and Marvin Rainwater - I wonder who tops the bill!

In between there is the livestream from The Globe with Elina Duni and Rob Luft details of which can be found among yesterday's posts.
