This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Make a Rendezvous at Durham Cathedral on Saturday night

The Friends of Durham Cathedral have asked me to promote to regular attendees of the Lit & Phil Lunchtime Jazz Concerts the following concert at the Cathedral next Saturday evening, which I am of course more than pleased to do. Details (and Paul Bream’s Jazz Alert write-up) below - and for all of us, whether North East residents or just citizens of the world, a very worthy cause. 
For those with long(er) memories, it is a welcome return - after Stan Tracey's Ellington Sacred Concerts in the nineties - of jazz and gospel to the Cathedral. It sounds like it will be a truly memorable evening. Please come and make it also a successful one for the Cathedral Friends.

The band line-up is at the top end, with fine reedsman Gavin Lee (not, I think, a regular member, but with Durham connections) joining for the occasion. 

The concert is a fund raising event for the Friends of Durham Cathedral, who assist with the upkeep of the building and its facilities - so let’s hope that a claim in the Northern Echo that the band will be “raising the rafters” is metaphorical rather than literal!
