This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Soprano Summit Mark 2?


Our Man in Hong Kong, Colin Aitchison, and the China Coast Jazzmen renew acquaintance with Bob Wilber (now 87) and Pug Horton outside of Ned Kelly's in Kowloon. With Franco Valussi around could a recreation of the famous Soprano Summit session Bob Wilber made with Kenny Davern be on the cards?

Hi Lance, We nearly made the soprano summit, but had to change it to Clarinet summit. Franco & Bob, two clarinet feature on Lady Be Good and Mood Indigo. For a man who is now 87 years of age he can still put out some beautiful melodic licks out on the clarinet. Franco had quite a challenge. Wonder if I can persuade him to come to Newcastle with Franco in July ??
