This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jazz for Free Thinkers @ Sage Gateshead

BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking Festival takes place at Sage Gateshead this weekend (Nov 6-8). The annual event gathers together free thinkers, the curious and the bemused. This year Jazz Record Requests pops-up on the concourse. You are welcome to attend a live broadcast of the programme on Saturday at 4:00pm. Please arrive fifteen minutes before Alyn Shipton and guests go ‘live’. One request is to hear Barbara Thompson and another listener wants to hear Henry Grimes. You may spot a familiar face!
Following JRR at five o’clock on Radio 3 is Jazz Line-Up. A pre-London Jazz Festival special, there should be something worth listening to. At midnight, again on Radio 3, the subject of Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz is Dizzy Gillespie.
Finally, on Monday over on Radio 2, Paul Jones will be playing new releases including a track from County Durham’s blues-rock guitarist Mitch Laddie.
