What can one say? This is the jazz version of Cream or maybe Forty Years After. Whatever, the triumvirate take jazz rock to an exalted level.

Lloyd is the spiritual descendent of the Tyneside jazz dynasty that weaves its way from Charlie Smith via Roly Veitch,  John Hedley, Terry Ellis, James Birkett, Rod Sinclair, Mark Williams to Lloyd and (in a different direction) Bradley Johnston.

I wasn't the only one who recognised Lloyd's credentials - the gig was well attended - and the boy didn't disappoint giving the crowd an inspired set. There was more pedals on stage than in the Tour de France but they were used sparingly yet effectively.

Original material, although some we'd heard before and some we hadn't, allowed the young guitarist  to display his awesome technique as well as his occasional tender moments.

On bass, Jon Proud too had his moments. A less flamboyant player than Wright he, nevertheless, did what was needed and soloed impressively. David Francis has been round the kit a few times and his breaks and fills showed the hands and feet of experience.

It was a good set with ne'er a sheet of music on the stand.
That I missed the second set was no reflection on the band.
