This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. New track: The Narrators - The Statement.

Belinda Voshtina (vcl); Tim Bloomer (gtr); Dominic Snaith (Hammond SK); Katy Trigger (bs); Robbie Houston (dms).
The Narrators are a fresh blues band comprising of professional and semi professional musicians from Newcastle Upon Tyne. They have upcoming gigs at The Great British Blues Festival and other top venues, as well as some great past gigs around the north at venues such as The Muni Theatre, The Central Bar, Hoochie Coochie and The Sage Gateshead. They are currently booking a short uk tour in the autumn to celebrate the release of a new original cd.
I've heard one track - The Statement and it augurs well for the rest of the CD.
Opening with some heavy guitar, Belinda takes over with a low key vocal before giving way to a superb blast on the Hammond by Dominic. Tim keeps the blues fevered temperature high before Belinda makes the final "statement".
It's not the greatest blues record I've ever heard but it certainly isn't the worst and it gives a good indication of the band's capabilities. Hearing that Hammond sound live would surely be quite awesome.
