This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Belly Dancing at Rosie's

Jim McBriarty (clt/sop/vcl), Neville Hartley (tmb/vcl), Malcolm Armstrong (pno), Alan Rudd (bs), Mike Humble (dms), Red Hot Mama (dancing).
One thing 'bout Rosie's is that it is lively. From the first 4 bars of All Of Me when Alan Rudd's bass amp exploded and everyone almost dived under the tables thinking it was a recreation of when South Shields' Market place was bombed during the Second World War, to the generously proportioned lady strutting her stuff later on. The adrenalin was being pumped as fast as the Bishop Fingers Ale!
Olive was back but Ray Harley wasn't. Herbie had left for Turkey - presumably in search of more slender belly dancers - Neville Hartley stood in.
Neville played some good Teagarden trombone - reminiscent of Ronnie McLean - he also sang Indiana. Jim too vocalised, he also blew fine clarinet and soprano.
I'd been in communication with Daryl Sherman and asked Olive to sing Jeepers Creepers as a sort of proxy request from Daryl.
Olive also did Back in Your Own Backyard as well as Fine and Dandy which was just dandy and fine as was the whole session - even the impromptu belly dance!
