This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Maine Street Jazzmen @ Rosie's (Rosie Malone's, South Shields.)

Ray Harley (tpt), Jim McBriarty (clt), Herbie Hudson (tmb/hca/vcl), Malcolm Armstromg (pno), Alan Rudd (bs), Mike Humble (dms0, Olive Rudd (vcl).
Three significant events today. Ray Harley's back in town for a couple of weeks, Herbie's back and pub/band mascot Annie danced her sox off. All 3 did great as indeed did Malcolm - the best in the biz for this style - Alan, rock steady, and Mike who listens to what's going on and provides the drive and impetus for the soloists.
Oh yes, there's Olive. Olive saved me a pound by not selling me a raffle ticket but delivered much more than a bottle of Tesco Chardonnay with her versions of I Got Rhythm, Sunday, How'd Ya Like To Love Me and Just Friends.
An enjoyable retreat from the noonday sun.
