This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. TONIGHT at the HIGHFIELD - RUTH LAMBERT TRIO

RUTH LAMBERT is tonight's (Sunday May 10,) star attraction at The HIGHFIELD HOTEL, East Rainton, County Durham. The down beat is at 8:00 pm and Ruth is one classy chanteuse. With PAUL EDIS on piano, ANDY CHAMPION, bass, sounds to me like you ought to be there.
And, if you are still in doubt, it is FREE!

Is this a dumb question, but have any of the gigs been advertised in the listings of magazines & papers - I've never seen them in the Guardian Guide for example?

Good question - come in Paul Edis...
Apart from this site, Paul Bream gives all known gigs coverage and the Highfield management advertised in the Sunderland Echo as well as emailing interested parties. There was a good crowd for Tony Kofi and Julian Siegel. The problem as I see it is that folk are prepared to boogie down the A19 for a 'name' but not for a local band/artist.
