Monk's "Ask Me Now" - Kofi played it the other Sunday at East Rainton. Has anyone put words to this tune? It is so beautiful I absolutely love it and i'd like to also hear it sung. Lance.

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) I must thank Roly for introducing me to this band albeit not this particular track. Yardbird Suite and 'Round Midnight aren't bad either!
I first heard them many years ago on Jazz Record Requests, playing 'Giant Steps'.
It was so cute.
I recently heard it again and thought I'd buy a CD with GS on it but it seems the CDs are not in circulation now and presumably they disbanded years ago. Lovely band though and maybe they broke down some barriers.

I've just come across a vocal by Carmen McRae on good old Spotify. Jon Hendricks wrote the lyric and called it "How I Wish".
I recall Tony Kofi tried to persuade Dave Weisser to sing it. Maybe Dave will oblige on Wednesday at the Chilli?
Consider this a request Dave - do it à cappella if needs be.
