The late trumpeter/band-leader/educator Herb Pomeroy was a member of a panel of fellow Bostonians who were asked to name their favourite jazz recordings by Boston musicians. Each gave his/her personal choices - including several of Herb's own discs - when it came to making his own selection he deliberated for a moment or two then said, angrily, "Throw them all in the rubbish bin and get out and listen to some live jazz!"
Come to think of it that isn't such a bad idea - there's a lot of live jazz just waiting to be heard. Why not get out there and listen to it warts and all rather than a sanitised product that has been re-mastered, edited, over-dubbed and maybe took a year to put together.
You could start tomorrow, as I said in the previous post but one, at the Jazz Café and The Bridge. Then on Monday Lewis Watson's at the Cherry Tree - there's a lot of it about!
Lance.
