This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Miles Davis 100: Composer of the Week and more

Guess who's Composer of the Week? Yep, one Miles Dewey Davis III. Born one hundred years ago tomorrow (26 May 1926), Miles Davis is all over BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra. Starting today (Monday) at four o'clock, in the first of five weekday broadcasts (Monday to Friday), presenter Kate Molleson and guest Nate Chinen discuss Miles' career and listen to several recordings from down the years.

At 9:45pm, The Essay: Miles Beyond is the first of five programmes (Monday to Friday) in which Kevin Le Gendre explores Miles' output, looking at various albums and their impact. At half past eleven this evening (and every weekday evening), 'Round Midnight  has yet more Miles to listen to. 

If you missed Clarke Peters' Legend: the Miles Davis Story on Saturday, there is a swift repeat on Radio 4 today at 4:30pm. And at the same time - aargh! - over on Radio 4 Extra, Blue Canvas: the Artist Miles Davis is 'an other chance to hear a 2016 programme' in which Jo Gelbard  talks about Miles the painter. Russell
