This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Preview/Press release: Pete Roth Trio feat. Bill Bruford - north east dates

After taking a near 15-year hiatus and stepping away from the drums altogether, Bill Bruford made the decision to return to the instrument, rebuilding his voice from the ground up until he could once again speak through the kit in the unmistakable way only he can. During this process, he joined the Pete Roth Trio, led by German born guitarist and composer Pete Roth, alongside British session bassist Mike Pratt. Rooted in jazz but never confined by it, the trio has developed a powerful and original sound that draws on prog rock, blues, fusion, and world music.

Last year alone, the band played nearly 70 shows across England, Japan, Spain, Scandinavia, Italy, Germany, and beyond, selling out most venues along the way. The legendary Fasching Club in Stockholm described them perfectly:
“Jazz, funk, contemporary classical, Dvořák. Nothing is sacred. It’s not retro. It’s not comfortable. It’s just brilliantly unruly.”

They’re now embarking on an exclusive north east tour, performing at:

  • 27 Jan – The Forum Music Centre, Darlington

  • 28 Jan – Knutsford Little Theatre, Knutsford

  • 29 Jan – Seven Arts, Leeds

  • 30 Jan – Gosforth Civic Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne
