This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. D.O.A. | 1949 | Film Noir | Edmond O'Brien, Pamela Britton | Full Movie ...


I love vintage black and white noir movies and this is 1949 epic is one of the best. There's a rockin' club scene about 19 minutes in with a jump/jive band tearing it up. On screen the trumpet player is Teddy Buckner but, in true Hollywood fashion he's 'ghosted' by Ernie Royal.

The other off screen 'ghosts' are Maxwell Davis (tenor sax); Lester's brother Lee Young (drums); Ray Turner (piano) and George Boujie (bass),

Set in San Francisco it's full of the essential props: the fog, the cable cars, the beatings, the shootings, the femme fatales, the car chase, in fact D.O.A. ticks all the boxes for a classic film noir. Lance
