This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Sammy Davis Jr. - Birth of the Blues (Live)


Today (Dec. 8) marks the centenary of the birth of one of the all-time great entertainers - Sammy Davis Jr.

Sammy was born on this day in Harlem in 1925 and left us on May 16, 1990.

I would add my recommendation to Russell's. I found the former programme fascinating and very revealing about the man himself. Amazing to see him explaining tap to Margot Fontaine - a combination as left field as Grappelli and Menuhin!
