The Scottish leg of the tour done and dusted, the Lorne Lofsky-Nigel Price Quartet motored south, stopping off in Hexham for an afternoon concert. Later on, Lofsky, Price, Brown and Barford would conclude a long day on Railway Street in Newcastle.
Queen's Hall, Hexham presents a monthly Sunday afternoon concert series. Of late, audience numbers have been most encouraging. This afternoon's full house spoke volumes for the programming policy.
An earlier BSH review of the Lofsky-Price concert at the Blue Lamp up in Aberdeen covered most bases - the sets lists in Aberdeen and Hexham were broadly similar, I Hear a Rhapsody an addition to the programme here in Hexham.
A most attentive audience marvelled at the virtuosic musicianship - guitarists Lofsky and Price comfortable in one another's company, bassist Jeremy Brown a tower of strength, drummer Joel Barford of the new generation of hot shot drummers.
An exquisite reading of Nancy with the Laughing Face, a contrasting Bitter Suite, a bluesy Bluesette to Oscar Peterson's Sushi, with four or five concerts already chalked off, Lofsky and Price were in the groove.
The Globe, Newcastle would be the Lofsky-Price Quartet's next port of call. It promised to be something special.
