Bebop Spoken There

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Free Zoom Sessions for School Bands

(NYC based trumpet player Nick Mondello is a regular contributor to BSH and this free project is worth following up by anyone involved with jazz education in schools. Lance)

Friends of Big Band Jazz, the Kenton Legacy Orchestra and Stan Kenton Band lead trumpet, Mike Vax, in conjunction with Big Toots Enterprises (that's me!) are offering free live zoom session clinics for middle and high school jazz ensembles this coming school year.

Our highly-experienced jazz clinicians include former members of the Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, "Tower of Power" ensembles and other LA and NY studio A-Listers.

Clinics are delivered via zoom and are done live.

This is a non-competitive activity with no advertising and no solicitation for lessons or anything other than the clinic.itself and is offered FREE to any public or private middle or high school jazz ensemble world-wide.

Ensembles receive the live clinic as well as a video and AI summary of the session.

Interested ensemble directors should PM me on my personal FB Messenger page (or email me at: nickmondello@optonline.net) .

There are no strings or hidden agendae on this. It is purely playing it forward á la Clark Terry's philosophy  (as both Mike and I are Clark Terry band mates).

We'd welcome the chance to do this especially with underserved schools who might not be "Essentially Ellington" or "Berklee Festival" caliber or who cannot afford on site clinics. Nick Mondello
