(Peter Bevan sent me the following remembrance of Tony Haynes who passed away on Sept. 17 last year) as addition to Tny Haynes' obituary posted HERE):Firstly, Tony's Grand Union Orchestra also appeared at Darlington Arts Centre in February 1987 for a week's residency giving workshops for schools and a concert on 18 February - flyer attached. I don't have a note of the musicians although I think it's very likely Keith Morris was among them.
I first met Tony in 1979 when he was commissioned by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to investigate opportunities for creative musicians. I was a member of the Advisory Committee. The research was carried out in 1979/1980 although it wasn't published until 1988 (I can't remember why there was such a delay). Keith Morris was one of Tony's local correspondents.
Tony, with John Cumming, also devised a wonderful show, Jelly Roll Soul, naturally enough about Jelly Roll
Morton which I see toured for 14 weeks, courtesy of the Arts Council. Possibly it appeared in Newcastle or elsewhere in the North East but at the time I was living on Merseyside and saw it at the Theatr Clwyd in Mold. I've attached my review from the Liverpool Daily Post.
Hope this is all of interest. Peter
