This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. R.I.P. Bob Caswell (? - July 13, 2025)

The news that veteran vocalist Bob Caswell passed away earlier today will strike a chord of sadness in the hearts of those who loved his Sinatra styled crooning and his magical stagecraft.

Although based on Teesside where he sang with just about anybody who was anybody in that neck of the woods, he frequently crossed county lines to sing at Blaydon Jazz Club,  Hoochie Coochie (now Pilgrim), the Sage (now the Glasshouse), the Cherry Tree and many others.

As of yet I don't have any more details but I will post any further details as they come in.

To quote one well-known Teesside alto player: 'Bob Caswell was among the best singers around these parts'. 

I'll say 'Amen' to that.

Ah! Sad news. Whenever I heard Bob sing I always thought: Class act.
