This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Preview: Hopper-Watson Quintet (July 9)

This evening (Wednesday July 9) at Central Bar has all the makings of an 'I was there' occasion. Tenor saxophonist Lewis Watson is an established name on the jazz scene and trumpeter Lara Hopper is of the new generation of musicians making a mark locally and soon to be nationally. 

Watson's quartet is that of A-listers - Mark Williams (guitar), Andy Champion (bass) and John Bradford (drums) - and it's an intriguing prospect to see how Lara matches up to these guys.
