This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. R.I.P. Brian Kellock (1962 - May 27, 2025)

Sad to hear the news that Brian Kellock, one of Scotland's, the UK's, the World's great jazz pianists passed away yesterday.
I don't know the details, hopefully someone will update me.

I have fond memories of hearing him at many venues over the years including: Sage Gateshead (as was); Middlesbrough Town Hall; Scarborough Jazz Festival; Queen's Hall, Edinburgh; the Jazz Bar, Edinburgh to mention but a few.

Often with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra along with guests such as Randy Brecker, in a duo with Tommy Smith (see photo) and in many other situations where his sparkling and highly individual technique made him stand out and above the crowd.

I crossed out the locations mentioned at the top of the page as his artistry couldn't be contained by a country or an island. Brian Kellock, although Scottish through and through, belonged to the World.
