This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Going to the Chapel on Sunday (June 8)

No the Dixie Cups aren't going to the Chapel next Sunday but the Ian Bosworth Quintet are.

This particular chapel is a new music venue in Middlesbrough that is planning to present a first Sunday in the month series of jazz concerts starting a week tomorrow (June 8).

I'm advised that the quintet - Ian Bosworth (guitar); Richie Emmerson (sax); Jeremy McMurray (keys); Ron Smith (bass); Mark Hawkins (drums) - will be the resident house band with a special guest each month starting off with ace trumpet player Neil Brodie.

Admission is free and the music will run from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

The music will cover standards, bossa novas, blues and ballads. If you're down that way could be well worth a look in - It was CAMRA's Cleveland Pub of the Year in 2024 which is another incentive. Lance
