Preview: Russ Morgan Quartet @ the Globe on Sunday, July 7.

© Pam
It was, I think, about ten years ago when Russ Morgan arrived in Newcastle having already made a name for himself in London and East Anglia. After sitting in at the old Jazz Café (now the Prohibition Bar) on Pink Lane he quickly, and deservedly so, became the first call drummer on the local scene.

Unfortunately, health problems caused him to curtail his activities for a number of years much to the dismay of fans and fellow musicians.

However, Russ is gradually easing himself back and his recent gig at the Globe with Andrea Vicari and Andy Champion showed the magic is still there.

This coming Sunday (July 7) he is back at the Globe in a JNE promotion leading his own quartet comprising Andy Champion on bass, rising star Harry Keeble on tenor, Mark Williams on guitar and, of course, Russ on drums. Truly a super-group and I don't use the term lightly.

It's a not-to-be-missed gig.

Doors at 7:00pm, music at 8:00pm. See poster in right-hand column for further details. Lance
