This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. The Classic Jazz Party - the countdown is on! (Nov. 1)

This year's Classic Jazz Party at the Village Hotel on North Tyneside is little more than twenty four hours away. The first of the musicians have flown in from the States, including pianist David Boeddinghaus from New Orleans via Heathrow. Looking surprisingly bright eyed and bushy tailed after a long journey, our man's eyes lit up on learning the grand piano had just been tuned. 

We wandered round to the hotel's function suite. The place was deserted, the calm before the storm (Storm Ciaran). Mr B sat at the Kawai and began to play. Pronouncing himself delighted with the instrument, your correspondent left him to it. The countdown is on! Russell
