As mentioned earlier, the flow was heading to the home of NUFC where the attraction wasn't Allan Saint-Maximin who, if the rumours are true, may not be an attraction at Gallowgate next season, the magnet was North Shields born singer/songwriter and overnight sensation Sam Fender.
Sam isn't related to Leo Fender, creator of the Stratocaster/Telecaster guitars, but he does play a Fender Jazzmaster - I suppose it was inevitable although it may have been a different story if he'd been born Sam Gibson or Sam Rickenbacker!
Despite his choice of guitar, I doubt if there was much jazz on the gig even with Blue Hat Davis and David Gray among the horn section.
I wasn't there so I can't pass judgement but to pull in 100,000 punters over two nights he must be doing something right!
Meanwhile, down by the riverside, those who weren't meeting up with their little bright-eyed doll were taking part in the annual Blaydon Road Race - all 4,000 of them. I got the feeling that the rest of the north east must be empty because Sage Gateshead was also close to bursting at the seams as will be revealed soon. Lance
