On Friday (2nd June) there's only one place to be and that's Cluny 2. Courtesy of Jumpin' Hot Club, promoters of all things Americana, blues and roots, bluesman Guy Davis makes a long overdue return visit to Newcastle. A two-time Grammy nominee, Davis (guitar, harmonica, vocals) is one those those 'been there, done that' characters, the man's cv is more than impressive.
Actor, author (scriptwriter), musician, tutor, way back Davis worked with folk legend Pete Seeger, later sharing stages with the likes of John Hammond (long-time Jumpin' Hot Club gig-goers will remember fondly Hammond's gigs here on Tyneside), Taj Mahal and Bruce Springsteen. In addition, Davis has opened for no less than Chuck Berry, James Cotton and BB King. During lockdown Davis streamed 400 online shows (!), now back on the road, the Cluny 2 audience can expect to hear original material and a few numbers from some of the all-time greats, perhaps Blind Willie McTell, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, who knows? Opening for Guy Davis will be the King Bees' frontmen Michael Littlefield (vocals, guitar) and Scott Taylor (vocals, harmonica). King Bees are the real deal Chicago blues band.
