This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Sax Forte @ Connaught Court, York - July 28

Sax Forte, a saxophone quartet based in and around York, gave a concert at Connaught Court in the Fulford area of the city last Thursday and BSH's occasional correspondent in the area, Liz Harris, sent me a copy of their programme which bears out her comment that it was a wonderful, eclectic mix of music enhanced by their sheer professionalism.

The four musicians in the band are described in the programme as follows:

Chris (soprano sax because he likes showing off); Keith (alto sax because he tries to keep up with Chris); Jane (baritone sax because she's got the strongest shoulders); David (tenor sax because he knows his place - with apologies to the 2 Ronnies & John Cleese).

Liz was especially taken with Harlem Nocturne which they dedicated to her - Lance
