This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Northern Monkey Brass Band @ The People's Kitchen - Dec. 6

It's a sad state of affairs that in twenty first century Britain soup kitchens and food banks are commonplace. It doesn't have to be like this but don't hold your breath that things will change anytime soon. Newcastle's People's Kitchen does sterling work in feeding those in need and it's become something of an annual occasion in the run up to Christmas for the Northern Monkey Brass Band to turn up at the organisation's Bath Street premises to play a set of N' Awlins-inspired tunes. 

Woolly hats, gloves (that's the band!), never has the phrase 'brass monkeys' been more applicable! NMBB originals, the Jacksons, the Human League and more, People's Kitchen clients and volunteer workers alike were dancing in the street.
