Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Preview: Samara & Georgia are set to wow Ronnie's

Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 8 & 9) at Ronnie Scott's could go down in history as 'I was there' occasions. Samara Joy, winner of the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, is an astonishing talent. Based in NYC, the 21 year old graduate of SUNY Purchase, New York, simply has to be heard to be believed. Check out Emmet Cohen's live stream with Joy as his special guest (August 2021, readily available on YouTube) and prepare to be amazed! On Monday evening on Frith Street, Samara Joy and her trio, featuring the brilliant guitarist Pasquale Grasso, are set to deliver a memorable performance.

Twenty four hours later it's the turn of Georgia Cécile. If Samara Joy is the hot property in America, just wait 'til Ronnie's audience hears Georgia sing! Glaswegian Georgia is the real deal. Based in Edinburgh, Georgia will be making her Ronnie Scott's debut in the company of frequent collaborator, pianist Euan Stevenson, bassist Andrew Robb, drummer Max Popp and, on trumpet, Ryan Quigley! Two eagerly awaited concerts on consecutive days, if you're within striking distance of Soho there's only one place to be and that's Ronnie Scott's! Book now at: www.ronniescotts.co.uk. Russell
