What is there to say about The Quintet of the Hot Club de France that hasn't already been said? Come to that, what is there left to say about Emma Fisk's Hot Club du Nord?
Both bands have more or less exhausted superlatives and, although the music may date back to the years either side of WWII, it somehow retains its relevance today - particularly in the hands of Emma and her trusty crew.
I Can't Believe That You're in Love With Me - the opening number. Emma, Brad, Dave and Bruce - you'd better believe it as myself and 95 others watching certainly are!
Brad took (figuratively) centre stage for I'm Confessin' before all four almost delivered knockout punches on I Saw Stars. I say almost as Emma was, seemingly, turned into a pillar of salt mid-solo and the whole shebang remained frozen in cyberspace!
However, the IT boffins at The Globe pressed a few buttons, clicked on some links and maybe, being Sunday, said a few prayers and, before I had time to open a can (man!), they were back in business.
From here on in it was all systems go. Brad back in the game with Body and Soul, Emma firing on all four strings on Undecided, Dave proving his familiarity with the repertoire on Si tu Savais (If You Only Knew) and Bruce, of course, the Eiffel Tower of Hot Club bass playing.
Other tunes included Ultravox; HCQ Strut; Belleville and Lady Be Good. However, there was also a moment of poignancy as Emma paid tribute to Keith Nichols before finishing off with J'attendrai.
Once again, The Globe and the Jazz Co-op have kept the jazz flag flying - Vive la Co-op!
