This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: DJam 2020!

DJam Swing Dance Festival 2020 is almost here! Next weekend over three days (Friday 24-Sunday 26January) Lindy Hop comes to Durham. Dancers from all four corners will descend on historic Durham City to participate in a bewildering array of events. Taster sessions include 'Classic Charleston' and 'Double Time Shag', you can practice your 'Fancy Footwork' and 'Rhythm Variations' and there will be social dance events, a welcome dance, a Masquerade Ball, a farewell dance and an after party. It's going to be non-stop!  

Durham Town Hall will welcome DJam guests and the historic Market Place venue should be packed to the rafters not least on Saturday evening for a Masquerade Ball with music from London's Shirt Tail Stompers. Trumpeter Steve Coombe's swing dance outfit (including Michael McQuaid, reeds) will be heading to the Land of the Prince Bishops to entertain DJam's many patrons across the weekend including the Masquerade Ball which should be a blast! 

Several venues (including Elvet Methodist Church Hall in Old Elvet and Fabio's on Saddler Street for the after party) are within easy walking distance and will accommodate a range of DJam events. For tickets and details of DJam 2020 visit: www.lindy-jazz-co.uk and www.dance-at-djam.co.uk.
