Bebop Spoken There

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

A Roaring Twenties' Classic Jazz Party

(Preview by Russell)

Mike Durham's International Classic Jazz Party is all set to return over three days at the end of October. The dates for your diary are Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November. Concert themes will be confirmed next month but meanwhile here is a list of some of the musicians who will definitely be taking part and what a list it is!

From USA - trumpeters/cornetists Mike Davis and Andy Schumm (an authority on Bix Beiderbecke), brilliant young pianist Andrew Oliver returns, as does master pianist David BoeddinghausDave Bock, trombone, who made a big impression last year, has accepted an invitation to return and vocalist Roya Naldi is set to be a big hit (BSH heard Roya at Bix Fest 2019 - Classic Jazz Party regulars will be impressed!). No Classic Jazz Party would be complete without Josh Duffee and, sure enough, the percussion wizard will be crossing the Atlantic to be at one of his favourite events of the year.

The European contingent includes the welcome return of Jean-François Bonnel, reeds. Jean-François, forever associated with the now global superstar Cécile McLorin Salvant, is a class act, be sure to hear him play at this year's CJP. Fellow reedsman Claus Jacobi will once again be at the forefront of affairs, as will London based Aussie reedsman Michael McQuaid and, of course, the Brits will be out in force. Emma Fisk, violin and Phil Rutherford, brass bass, live on the doorstep but, make no mistake, they more than hold their own in such exalted company. Rico Tomasso, trumpet, is likely to conjour the spirit of Louis Armstrong, Tom 'Spats' Langham will enchant as vocalist and delight as instrumentalist (banjo, guitar, ukulele). And, last but by no means least, following an absence of one year, maestro Keith Nichols returns. Pianist, vocalist, bandleader, arranger, raconteur, Mr Nichols is an attraction in his own right. Let the man loose with an all star ensemble and you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be a highlight of the weekend.
