One of the legendary gigs at the old New Orleans Club on Forth Banks in
Newcastle, and one that is still spoken of with reverence today, was the
appearance by the Zbigniew Namyslowski Quintet.

I first heard him in Sheffield about 1965.
I was at the gig at the New Orleans when he played with his quartet .
Must have been 1965 when Eurick ( not sure how his name is spelt) ran the legendary jazz club.
They played on the Saturday and Sunday evening and I was there for both gigs. One of the most memorable gigs I have ever been to . It was fantastic. They reprised the Lola LP mainly which was so different to any jazz I had heard before( at the time) and was absolutely superb. I felt privledged to be there and also I bought the Lola LP at Windows after hearing them, of which I still have in my collection.
Nothing like reminiscing , I have spent many an hour boring people silly when I start rambling on about gigs I have been to. Ha!!

Listening to the Lola LP after all these years what strikes me is how advanced and original he was for the time. He seemed to have found a niche between Parker and Ornette that was all his own.
