Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Makes it all worth while!

(Daryl Sherman)
I'll be in England next week until Jan 22. Mostly for friend's birthday event but have a few gigs including Swansea and also this:
Digby Fairweather has been dedicating himself to launching this fairly new Jazz Centre in Southend. He visited NYC a few months ago and when I told him I'd be over in January...voila! He fixed up a concert on Friday evening and then next day as you'll see. I look forward to seeing the sea as well as lovely folks who live there.
All best to you, Lance, dearest and many thanks for your kind, caring support.

The Jazz Centre UK has an extra-special concert on Saturday, January 14 at 2pm by Daryl Sherman - America's greatest jazz singer/pianist. She's a huge superstar and is flying in from New York especially to play for us - and also conduct a 'join-in' workshop for singers - actual or 'would-be' - on the morning of 14th from 11am-12.30. Tickets for the workshop/concert are £50.00 - or £10.00 for the concert on its own. This will be a fantastic day and you can book on-line:thejazzcentreuk.co.uk or call DFP on (01702) 435727 for tickets! By the way: The Jazz Centre UK is in The Beecroft Art Gallery, Victoria Avenue, Southend on Sea, Essex SS2 6EX.
Daryl is pictured here with her [joint] number one fan Margaret at the 2013 Whitley Bay Classic Jazz Party.
