He's not tied to any particular style or idiom, but to an open process of creative development, delivering unadulterated, passionate music with no excuses and no apologies.
Throughout his career he has travelled widely, yet somehow has never previously found his way to Tyneside. Now he finally gets here, leading a wonderfully stimulating Anglo-American trio put together by the Orpheus Project that earlier this year teamed Canadian trumpeter Ingrid Jensen with our very own Andy Champion. This is the final date in a short UK tour, so the trio should by now be a really integrated unit. We've waited a long time for Ellery, and heaven knows when he'll be here again . . . so I urge everybody to get along to the Globe for what seems certain to be an unforgettable night of great jazz.”
