This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Tonight @ Hoochie

Once in a while an artist comes along that you just want to get behind for the love of the music. Hoochie Coochie have done this numerous times with artists like Marcell Russell & Big Brooklyn Red. We feel exactly the same way about Jay Nemor. To prove it we invite you to attend a showcase gig absolutely free of charge !
Jay Nemor was born in Houston Texas & began plating the alto sax @ the age of 11. He recalls seeing Earth Wind & Fire as a youth & became influenced by Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Teddy Pendergrass & Gil Scott Heron among others. In later life Jill Scott & Erykah Badu & D'Angelo have influenced him. A fabulous education in the hands of these artists.
Following his career as a professional basketball player he found himself in Iceland in 1998. He joined a jazz band called Jaguar which influenced him in the world of Jazz. After moving to Norway he formed a duo called Kenya & Nemor & released his debut album "Just Becuz", which was released in Japan.
He is now releasing his first solo album , "Just Sayin" which is what turned us on to him. It's fantastic. We want you to hear it live @ Hoochie Coochie first, so get in first to hear an amazing artist. This is Jay's first ever gig in the UK with full band.
