This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Let's Make History!

The publication of the tome recalling the halcyon days of the Redcar Jazz Club prompted Steve Andrews and Carstairs to suggest a similar publication on Tyneside Jazz Clubs to perhaps supplement the late Chris Yates' fine book Blue Horizons. There's a lot of material worthy of collating in our RH column under Pages/Memories of Jazz in the North East. In particular the first item by John Pearce gives an excellent overall picture of the scene from pre-war to early '60s.
Add to this the snippets that can be found in Colin Aitchison's Melody Maker collection (admittedly the northeast seemed to be somewhat shortchanged by MM's 'Northern' columnists but that could well be to do with a lack of anyone in our area feeding them the info - if only they'd had a "Dixieland Spoken Here"!) 
I'd also invite any of our more senior readers who feel they have a story to tell about jazz in the north east - either as a player or a listener - to pass on their thoughts and memories of the various jazz clubs, pubs and venues they remember.
